IT’S TIME TO LOOK AWAY

mama’s smile is too fickle to stay

like twigs on autumn branches

words pinched around her cheeks

by tight concave creases

papa’s waterlines have let

his tear ducts unclog

stutters in periodic sobs

brother’s voice rests cozy

between trafficked phlegm

behind his tongue

it’s time to look away

gate 15 has opened for boarding, anyways.
